Ravel the visionary

Ravel's Sonatine has been in my music library since 1991, I wrote the date when I bought it. Never touched. I have no idea why ,
but this autumn it came in my hands and I realized it was time.
 I played something from Debussy in the past but never faced Ravel, having always been devoted to German romanticism.
 I was perhaps afraid of something very far from me.
 Instead .... Nothing more false.
 Approach this wonderful piece is inebriating . The light, airy sounds immediately envelop you in fragrant sensations. You feel transported elsewhere, or rather within yourself and your emotions.


 The first movement, Moderé, gives rise to a melancholy sense of emptiness, lack, distance, as if to look at a landscape from behind a window, to see life flowing slowly and not being able to embrace it.
 But it's not dramatic. Here there is no drama, but a sweet almost painless acquiescence.

 The Menuet is a jewel . A precious nocturnal gem that remembers archaic fluctuating melodies, forgotten dances coated of modern colors that sometimes bloom in unexpected aromatic and colorful gardens.

 Incredible the disruptive force from the last movement, Anime' . It seems to undertake a journey, leaving for some kind of unexpected soul flight.
 At one point it reminds me almost a film music, a farewell scene at the station, not even the time of a hug and run, maybe stumbling through the unconscious crowd.

 Here, the number of emotions, visions, impressions aroused by these notes is unlimited.
 As you read a novel, follow the plot that you recreate yourself each time, and mix your own with the composer's visions, and it is magic.
